LOL!  Can't say I had that pleasure. But I do remember hurricane parties as a very small child.  Everyone would come to my grandparent's house which was considered the sturdiest, having been built in the late 1800s, clad in stucco, and stood high on a ridge that was proudly 2-3' above sea level.  Everyone felt very safe.

Well, I'm glad you went out and checked that furnace vent.  At the worse, you got to experience rime ice, at the best, you know where your furnace vents to.  

And on to the weather report for the White Mountains: it's a beautiful day!  We totally got spared the brunt of this storm, and it's sooooo preeeety!!!



There was already snow on the ground, so the picture makes it look like we got more than we did.

What a fantastic idea, Camp!  I'll have to remember that one.  Only problem is that I was finally able to open ONE of my doors to outside a crack just last night.  I can fit thru the door this morning but can't go anywhere without a shovel and a strong back.  Besides, the DPW showed up over 2 hours after that last update.

A smallish town bulldozer/catapiller just plowed through and made a tiny single lane, but didn't take the snow away. Then a giant Town dump truck with the curly cue plow came and got stuck out here had to wait while a giant bulldozer dug thru to   him to get him out. Whatta show!  Then a humongous pay loader came and made a giant snow pile in my extra parking space, which is fine. And another one in the driveway of the summer house across the street.  Now we wait for plow guy & hope he can do something.

Miss Lilly has been bugging me horribly to get out the back door but a drift that  goes across the whole lawn comes half way up that door.  I finally took out the top storm window, patted down the snow and put her on it.  She sniffed around and then jumped back inside.  No more noise from her about it.

MY snow shark...er, plow guy came by a little bit ago and decided to finish up with his other customers before starting on mine.  He says it's a big job and he will bring back his snowblower to use also...said that he'll start tonight and finish up tomorrow. *sigh*

but this is the only place I get what it is really like being housebound by mountains of snow.  Best of luck to you guys.  Hope you have some good food and heat.

I can just picture you in a hoodie and a can of spray paint!

*sigh*  Guess I should be grateful for having seen some blacktop yesterday...

So I'm eating this apple for breakfast just now and I think, dang this thing is delicious!  So I pulled the sticky label out of the trash, donned my reading glasses, and sure enough it's an organic Honey Crisp.  I planted one last spring and it's now part of my orchard outside.  Anyway, I dug out this ones ONE and ONLY seed (why are they like that?) and, lo and behold, it had a root! 
 
So my first seed of the season was planted today in used MM.  Psyched!

Now I need to look up what temp to keep it at.   The other one was able to sprout & grow outside but this one will need babysitting for a while.

CapeC.....If you loved that store-bought Honey Crisp, you'll pass out eating a home-grown one.  I have a dwarf tree and the apples are just amazing in flavor.

Hey, we got another 6" outside my doorway yesterday and they say maybe even up to 10" more on Monday.  I have to admit, I no longer think white is beautiful.  I have to hibernate since I don't drive in snow.  Its going to be a longggggggg winter.

On the plus side, my arugula is growing well under the lights and the Simpson lettuce is also popping up in the center of the pot.  I'm a happy woman.

QB, where did you get your dwarf Honey Crisp?  I've been reading that it will take years for my seed planted trees to bear fruit so I should probably buy at least one tree me thinks.  There are other trees in the neighborhood, albeit pretty far down the road, so I'm hoping they can help to pollinate one new tree.

I purchased my dwarf Honeycrisp, as well as another variety, from Stark's.  So far, I've been very pleased with this company.  Enter your zip code, enter search terms (such as "apple"), and their program checks those varieties in that category suitable for your area.  

So far, my trees are doing quite well!

In addition, Stark's has an extensive selection of fruit trees, as well as berries.

My Malus Honey Crisp dwarf came from Wayside Gardens.  I think I got my Red Haven dwarf Peach from Stark Bros.  Both are reliable nurseries.
OOooh, so good when fresh from your own orchard.


Edited to add, my HC was badly damaged by deer a few years ago but made a nice comeback.  I really thought I'd have to dig her out and replace her, but she came back to surprise me.
