Oh shoot Molly, well now you're gonna make me have to go out there in the dark.  It's about 3 ft off the ground.  Where the hecks my flashlight...I'll go during the next Jeopardy commercial, promise.

<<< Meanwhile, some are enjoying this snow a little too much ...

That's really pretty, LM, wish I could see it.

OK, I went out, dug the drift that was half way up the wall and found...nothing. But I now know what frozen fog feels like.  So I trudged my rime rice plastered wet sorry self back inside, headed down to to the basement, and found that the vent vents into the chimney and is happily clacking away in there...d'oh Embarassed

Wasn't worried about getting blown away, Molly.  In FL, didn't you use to go out in the hurricanes on your roller skates with an umbrella  and scoot on down the road while the parents hurricane partied?  What a Face

Rime ice, homemade donuts, slugging through the snow, ninja outfits, winter wonderland photos. Thank you all for posting real events.

As far as NY being super prepared, better that than caught off guard.

The storm has passed.  No power outages here and only a few singular ones thru the whole state.  That was a blessing.  People stayed home so no bad accidents on the roads and the plows could do their job.
We got a total of 23" in the end.
New England Jan 2015 - Page 5 Blizza17
This is my garden with 12" of snow.  See the cement birdbath.

New England Jan 2015 - Page 5 Blizza14
See that bump in the middle?  That's my cement birdbath.  Its 2 ft tall.  Above I posted one of the same space at 12" of snow.
New England Jan 2015 - Page 5 Blizza15
Here's a closeup of the birdbath.  I've never seen it like this before.
New England Jan 2015 - Page 5 Blizza16
But today the skies are bright and its finally passed.  More coming Sat but they say only a few inches and another on Mon.  I guess we're finally going to get the snow we can always expect for Feb each year.  Brrrrrr.......and buried.

In the meantime, I keep spritzing my arugula and lettuce pot but nothing germinating yet.

QB, your birdbath looks like a snow shark swimming around under there. Laughing

I'm seeing a lot from my window that I've never seen before in almost 40 yrs in this house!  Crazy snow drifts on my street.   I can't get out to get to work yet so working from home. I called the DPW and they are sending in a pay loader by tonite or latest tomorrow morning.  All their trucks are straight out.
My driveway plow guy will come in once the road is cleared.

Starting to get a little antsy so maybe I should go shovel something...

I walked down to the chicken coop this morning and couldn't believe how difficult it was to trudge thru - even tho it was "only" 18", it came to  my knee, and was hard going. I also had to clear the beehive entrances. They're saying another 4-5" here on Friday, and then again on Monday, I don't know how much that one is. Well, it will all be over soon. Days are getting longer!

I live in Hawaii.  My few experiences living with snow convinced me I have no use for it.  I would be on the receiving end of snow balls with my horrible aim.

LOL!  Can't say I had that pleasure. But I do remember hurricane parties as a very small child.  Everyone would come to my grandparent's house which was considered the sturdiest, having been built in the late 1800s, clad in stucco, and stood high on a ridge that was proudly 2-3' above sea level.  Everyone felt very safe.

Well, I'm glad you went out and checked that furnace vent.  At the worse, you got to experience rime ice, at the best, you know where your furnace vents to.   Laughing

And on to the weather report for the White Mountains: it's a beautiful day!  We totally got spared the brunt of this storm, and it's sooooo preeeety!!!

There was already snow on the ground, so the picture makes it look like we got more than we did.

The wind blew so much snow around yesterday, I had to move snow 3x. I hope you all in the coastal areas are getting dug out today.

More snow tomorrow night, and then again Monday. Then we should be moving ahead toward spring.
I am so happy the sun is keeping it light out until 5 pm now. What a Face

Blizzard update from Cape Cod:
We're getting ocean affect snow off and on. Off at the moment...drift not cleared yet, nor the road beyond it. Cars from the other direction have been careening into this drift all yesterday afternoon and evening. Fortunately not 2 at the same time....yet. One last night took over 2 hours to get out, in the pitch black dark.

I called the DPW just now as this is a school bus route & I wanted them to put up a detour sign or some such, and they said they'll be here within the hour. Yeah, right...*sigh*
