Super lovely picturesand Congratulations on your haul!  The seashore pics were like a virtual trip back to Long Island, NY where I saw horse shoe crabs as a child at Montauk Point.
Those crabs make me think of Jurassic Park..

Thanks you guys. Glad I could share the great weather.

I just switched to Firefox browser on my tablet and I'm having a hell of a time relearning everything. Bookmarks didn't load properly to include the passwords so it took me forever to remember which one I used to sign in to the forum. But... Here I am. And here is my morning breakfast surprise! Ate 2 before I remembered to take this photo. There are lots of white ones still but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Ruh roh...the photo load bar is missing. Back to the drawing board...

Hell NO! I was gardening and avoiding the crowds and listening to the scanner most of the day. The Festival was great and quiet and enjoyed by thousands. The riots that started at 1 pm today, and destruction are continuing at KSC, it's a mess. I'm surprised the NG isn't here yet.

Thanks for checking on me! Wink

camprn - Glad to hear the festival went well! I thought from news reports it WAS the festival, but I guess the location was a little removed. Squirts.

Too windy to do much of anything outside today. Taking a break from working with the moldy grass clippings pile and chicken manure. Probably always a good idea to wear a dust mask when you're working with some of these garden additives.

Heads up, New England...frost and freeze warnings tonight.  I'll cover the cukes & peppers but the tomatoes are on their own since they're spread all over tarnation.  Also, Tim Kelly's talking about  a possible multiple day nor'easter mid week.  And so it begins...

Filled up my salad box with a good mix today but it could be the last time as everything is growing  in super slo-mo now.  I thought my garden was scarce this year but my mother brought it to my attention last night that I've been eating 3 meals or side dishes a day out of it since spring.  This is a first fo me.  Having a NutriBullet here & at work makes it so easy to make a green drink or soup to go with every meal.   But now I have no leafy greens to freeze for winter and THAT was my goal when starting out this year.  Ah well...a new challenge for next year. Wink I'm already dreaming of how to do it.

YUP! I just checked the forecast and it has been adjusted to a low of 30F overnight. I picked several pounds of poblanos and those are now cut up and in the dehydrator.  I picked about 2# chard and will process that later this evening. I'll pick a few more peppers and cover up remaining beds one last time tonight.

I covered the kale with old sheets, hope it does okay in the freeze tonight. Rain is coming starting Tuesday afternoon thru Thursday, so tomorrow is almost the last chance to get manure/clippings spread on the beds before rain, and to chop up more dry leaves (there are a ton of fallen leaves) with the lawnmower and get those on the beds.

And it's cold outside! Brr. I forgot what cold felt like.

Every year we have new challenges, eh? I'm trying BEETS next year - can't wait. This year was butternut squash and I've been roasting them and basically mashing them into sweet potato, yum. And I'm going to make pumpkin pie out of the pumpkins. And the dried beans were fun. And the kale was good. Those were all new for me. Oh, and the watermelons were new, those were so-so, only got one good one really. But next year the new kid on the block will be BEETS. And I'm going to grow carrots if it kills me.

I see one of my Lowes preach trees is pretty much dead, the other one looks good. Next spring will be more fruit trees, probably from Fedco.

Is there ever a point where you just sit back and say - this is good enough?  Laughing

Nope. Didn't think so.

From all reports and my thermometer, it looks like it only got to 37F last night, not 29F.

I was looking back at last year's October & November threads. It's such a great resource to have those notes! Funny how there was a lot of panic leaf mowing last year too.

I was looking for my garlic planting date last year but I wasn't posting around that time. If we had had a good frost last night, I probably would have planted today, but since we didn't, I think I'll wait. An article I read said to wait until the first heavy frost so that the soil temperature is cool. I know it's still a little early, but with the rain coming, I thought that might work well.

Life as we know it all hinges on getting all the garden chores done today before the rains come tomorrow. Nothing like a little pressure.

Picked a couple kale leaves to saute for spaghetti sauce. I noticed chewed leaves but thought - hmm. Must've been old. I saw what looked like caterpillar poop but thought - hmm. Must've been old. And then I washed them and was tearing them up and putting them in the pan when I noticed a nice fat looper in the pan. YUCK. By the time I fished him out, he was brown on one side. EW. I'm wondering how many of those things we've eaten...
