The plan is one box dedicated to winter produce.

I was considering a narrow box off the edge of my deck. That would work this year, but since much of the produce will be brassica's they will need to go into a different box next winter. Therefore I am going to plant in a 4' x 4' box in the same area as the rest of the garden. It should be easier to rotate boxes that way.

It is a long way to Thanksgiving. I do not need to plan a dinner, I just need to start a nursery tray of leeks that will be ready to move to the winter box to fatten up. Not sure what type I'll choose yet, just know I need to do it soon!

First Week of May: If you will have a winter garden...... The first direct seeded plant, Leeks, go into the ground this week. If you started your leeks in a nursery bed or pot, put them out in their permanent square now.

Third week of May: You can start your squares of Brussels sprouts in your winter bed. However it will not be too late to wait until early June. Start your June sprouts in 4” pots. When the peas are ready to compost in mid July, refresh the soil mix and put in Brussels sprouts where the peas were if you do not have a bed dedicated to a winter garden.
