Some of the neighbor kids brought over 2 sheets full of leaves last night. Hopefully they'll be bringing more today. I'll be mowing them later today to start breaking them down.

I know I'll need to store them. Think they'll be okay in plastic bags? They're very dry... (DH hasn't built out my composter yet and I don't have a good compost pile place that will keep all the nutrients in.)

We STILL haven't gotten much more done on the greenhouse yet due to all the smoke in the air from the wildfires north of us. (They said on the news last night that there was something like 40 fires going....) But we're hoping to get out there this afternoon once it warms up a bit from our upper 30's this morning.

We got ours wrapped and set up for heat and lights. The lights worked. The heat didn't. Now it's raining and gonna turn cold tonight. The wrap and lights should help a little, but we really need to solve the heat problem, soon. bounce

Well, didn't get anything done on the greenhouse. But the leaves were mowed twice & now fit in a large garbage bag.

Suz, we decided (well.... dh decided!) that we're not going to heat the greenhouse. It will just have to survive with what we've got. And, I'll confess, I'd feel very uncomfortable putting a space heater in there. I'd be concerned that somehow the greenhouse would catch on fire & spread to the house. We'll see if Christmas lights help...

The heater we put out there didn't work, so we're going to buy one tonight on the way home from Katie's bday party. I want a radiant oil heater -- no fan. It will be off the floor and plugged into a heavy duty cord on a circuit breaker. My biggest concern is that it will be too hot. Shocked

I guess it's official... We were down to 30 when I got up. But the air's so dry we don't have frost... (We were at about 15% humidity at 6:30 last night.) So I guess this will go down in the records as the first frost date for my garden this year.

But it's kinda strange - according to NOAA, the current humidity for the airport about 25 miles from us is at 69% humidity. In looking at Weather Underground, the closest place to me is at 39%. Microclimates, lol!

Finally managed to get back on the greenhouse today. Got the wood part of the back wall up & the vent regulator for the fan in. Tomorrow is the siding on the back. Then we'll start on the roof. Woo-Hoo!

AtlantaMarie's Garden - Page 5 3170584802 Can't wait to see pics. Very Happy  Mine isn't doing so good. Sad All I have is an extension cord out there for power. I can't run lights and heat at the same time. The temp dips down to 40 degrees at least part of every day. I don't think my cukes, maters, and pattypan will survive much longer. At least my indoor winter garden is thriving, and I have cukes and maters there, too. Cool

CN, You're a hearty soul. Time to put the outside garden to bed, except for the cold tolerants like kale.

Well... Yesterday was in the upper 60's & today should be the in the lower 60's, so not bad temp-wise. (Right now it's 29.)

Got the siding up on the back, so we're ready to start the roof. But kneeling down to hammer in the siding messed DH's leg up, so I think he's planning to finish running the water lines and some piddly stuff today to give it a break. But at least it's progress!

And for the 1st time EVER, I have a place to put shade plants. Hmmmm....... (Insert wheels turning emoticon here......) I'm open to organic, heirloom, medicinal or food ideas here!

Got the first roof panel on this afternoon. And promptly realized that our back wall is not exactly straight & plumb.... sigh.... But - progress!

(I'm really hoping to be able to start seeding on Jan 1..... shhhh.... He doesn't know that yet. And I just got some of CN's super snow white cherry tomatoes today for motivation! Thanks again, CN!)

"It's going to start off around freezing with mixed precipitation tomorrow morning. But by the time you get up, the rain should be over & it should be above freezing." they said.

It was 33 when I got up at 6. And no rain.

"But don't worry," they said. "It'll be getting up to 65 tomorrow afternoon!"

It was 38 when I checked 45 minutes ago. It better hurry....

And it's raining again. (I'll take all of that right now that I can!)

I think I'll just get a weather rock, lol!

LOL! I gotta agree, Yolos!

It got up to 41. Then dropped to 38. By the time we went to bed, it was 40. Now it's 45 & foggy.

I'm glad ONE of us got up to temp. But I thought y'all were supposed to be a little higher.....

I can't wait till it's DONE! And I'll try to get Sanderson some pix since I can't post any myself.

Was going to put the door in today. Got it out there & realized we framed it in for a 36" door. The door is only 30" wide.... oops....

So we've gotten a couple of 2x4's in. We need one more 2x4 & a 1x4. We'll pick those up tomorrow.

The wind is howling with a cold front coming through, so we called it quits for today.

We've got two that are 21 years old. The others range from 5 years to 15 or so.

At our family place in Harrisville, NH, some of the plants are over 80 years old & still producing heavily. We pick them from the 2nd story deck! They're wild NH blueberries. My grandparents transplanted hundreds of bushes in the late 1930's. The hurricane of 1934 had blown down acres of hemlock trees. The wild blueberries then took over. But then the hemlocks starting coming back & crowding out the blueberries. In step my grandparents...

The youngest 2 bushes we have are from the family place. I think they are adding an incredible sweetness to the other bushes now.
