Keeping a Fan on your Plants

Hey all,

I've recently been tipped off that keeping a fan near your seedlings will help to strengthen their foundation and will make it easier on the plants come hardening time.

I've made sure not to keep the fan too close to the seedlings so that they'd die, but I've the fan oscilating just far enough away so that every so often you can see the little seedlings vibrate a tiny bit.

My question is, should I be hooking this fan up to the light timer? In other words, should both the fan and the lights go out after 15 hours, or is it okay to keep the fan going during "lights out?"

I have my fans cycle on and off with my lights.

I have no idea of the pros and cons of either choice.

Air movement, both indoors and out, helps strengthen young plants. Indoors we rely on a gentle fan from time to time.

So by time to time should I not be keeping the fan on 24 hrs? Should I keep the fan in sync with my 15 hour light cycle instead?

I think 24 hrs is excessive, and that synchronization with lighting is unnecessary.

Under normal growing conditions, plants experience neither condition routinely.

Ok thank you! Could you be any more specific than "from time to time," I'm kind of a left brained dude lol...

For my seedlings I turn the fans off and on with the light cycle. Once in greenhouse and mature, I use a temperature controller that will auto turn off on depending on what temp I choose. Hope this helps!
