A First for Moi
I'm in my 8th decade of life and for the first time I put kitchen waste in my 'compost' pile this week.
Last week a 2.4 gallon plastic bucket for collecting kitchen scraps was delivered from Amazon. There are only 2 of us and we don't have much kitchen waste; so I was surprised when it only took a week to fill the bucket. I took it out to the pile where we dump leaves to rot and buried the contents with a little of the rotted leaves then mixed in some of this year's leaves that have not begun to break down.
Tomorrow I'm going to pick up some used, food grade barrels. One of them will be made into a compost tumbler, one for capturing rain water, and others for storing manure, peat moss and vermiculite. I plan to put the manure in the compost pile to get it to heat up a bit.
I also got the lumber cut for my beds. I'll put linseed oil on the boards this weekend. With any luck, I should have the beds and MM ready around the first of the month.
It's never too late!
