That is true of every new product.  It is always best to wait a while until they get the kinks out.

The product cycle is only a year, though, so it will always be a bit of a gamble.  These are some of the rare products which pair well with an extended warranty.  They are fragile and the technology is volatile.  Everyone's risk tolerance is different, but there may never be a safe bet with this kind of technology.

With this kind of a time frame, the decision will often come down to whether you want to wait six months or a year to be sure the kinks have been worked out, thereby feeling safer, at the cost of not using the item for six months or a year plus the cost of buying a brand new item that is already outdated, May be underpowered for the next generation of apps, and may be closer to losing developer support for your apps and operating systems.

I definitely like waiting to see how new models of, say, cars or cameras shake out, but I'm not sure the same sort of thing works well with this kin d of rapid-turnover technology.

We appear to have European legislation that says goods have to have a guaranteed working life of six years  ( try getting it enforced Laughing )
Like you say it does not usually consider not having enough speed or memory to be a contradiction of the guarantee .

It will not cover applications / programmes brought separately .

I think we are soon going to have a six year legislated back up also enforced on all new products sold ( keep the receipts ) , that this will include the operating system  & updating .

I doubt many will every be kept long enough for anyone to try and enforce them , for like you say a year on in electronics is a heck of a long time and you'll like as not be out of date at the end even if it does work.   ( Anyone want what was a top spec Vista enabled tower PC with a 50 gig HD that does not have enough chip speed or memory to swallow " The Sims set up" it's only three years old  No )

I can imagine Bill Gates hearing about a six-year warranty: "Six years??? I want them to buy a new operating system and MS Office suite every two years!"

Lovely pictures LM.

Worth printing and selling framed copies perhaps ???

Red sky at night is a shepherds  delight .. Red sky in the morning is a shepherds warning .

Explanation :-
Red at night often means fair weather the next day as the sky is free of particles of dust or rain etc.

Red in the morning  .. Our sun rise is from Europe in the east ... too many particles will condense into rain &  bring wind as well .

Whilst not 100 % reliable it seem to have more than it's fair share of success over this side of the pond.

How does this old folk lore saying pan out for the USA ??

Thanks Plantoid.  The saying you referred to, as I recall and I'll probably mash it up to pieces too is, Red sky at night sailors delight, red sky at morning sailors warning.  Same idea you shared.  There is a small chance of rain today that prob. affected the colors I guess.  There was light fog too.  Big chance of rain tomorrow though.

As far as selling, I'm sending this link to my daughter who has become quite the hobby landscape artist using oils.  These photos may one day show up on canvass.  She's been selling her work and has a backlog of orders. Soon will have an online business with it too.  Ahh, as you know, kids are full of surprises Smile

I'm thinking that the old saying "Red sky at night, sailors take delight.  Red sky at morning, sailors take warning"  has more to do with the weather at sea.  Here in central California, red sky at night means we have heavy air pollution!!

The photos are beautiful! Very Happy

Thanks Tricia,

Most people think its pretty.  I received a response from my childhood friend in NY who said the pics look like the aftermath of an atomic bomb. Shocked  Here I saw beauty where a die hard NY-er saw calamity.  Go Figure.

And yes its great entertainment seeing the kids do different things.  Her last oil painting was sold to someone who saw a picture she took of it on her phone.  When I was her age this could have occurred only in a sci-fi movie.

Filled out the Master Gardener program application today. 100 bucks plus 70 hours service pays for it, or 300 bucks if you want to skip the service. Especially since the 70 hours entails working on and with plants and gardening subjects, I see it as part of the learning experience and will be happy to do the 70 hours service. Program starts in January next year.

Also, found my lost Kindle 4. Woohoo! Can't even say how delighted I am. Love that puppy! It's normally my constant companion. Now I don't have to buy a new one, or a new case to go with it (and they discontinued the only case I like!).

That is a wonderful idea for a program. For the prison gardeners, it's both positive in a spiritual sense, and practical in that it gives them useful skills. For the prisons, reduced recidivism is great and so is spending less money on food. And that saying that idle hands are the devil's playthings is true enough too; better to give the prisoners something to do.

Plus how many skills learned in prison are anywhere near as satisfying? The more satisfying something is, the longer one is likely to continue doing it. I can't see many prisoners looking forward to going to work in most of the menial occupations they can get trained for in prisons, but I can see anyone enjoying gardening and the feeling that you're really creating something when you do it.

Back in the early 1940's my dad worked at a place called the Farm Colony in NC. It was a farm for minimum security prisoners and provided vegetables, milk, and meat to the area prisons. Back then releasees could be hired as farm workers. Farm workers in today's times often can't make a living wage but small garden patches and landscaping skills might help. ie. SFG Maybe this is an idea that needs to be resurrected and expanded to include soil conservation and chemistry.
