Gardening Australia
I was an avid viewer of the ABC's Gardening Australia when it was presented by Peter Cundall but since his retirement I am watching it less and less.
Not too impressed by the 'Bearded One'
Any comments, or is it just me?
Cheers.

Ooops, yes indeed, it appears as a minus, the temp was 38 degrees C but thankfully today it's down to 25.trolleydriver wrote:I think that was +38C not -38C.sanderson wrote: But you are supposed to be in summer. . .
Nothing much on today in the garden.
Cheers.

Re: Gardening Australia
This is how long I have been a nurse! Medicine has been metric for many decades, with the notable exception of temperatures! (Why?). Well, I worked in the mid 80s in a PICU and we were all metric (academia, it is ok). That was the push...we always do it for weights and measures.sanderson wrote: ye olde metric system . . .
So, it is
Degrees Celcius x 9 divided by 5 plus 32 = Fahrenheit.
My mantra
Times 9 divided by 5 plus 32.
Yeah! You guys were smokin! 100! I would not be working out there either!

In Australia between 1970 and 1988, imperial units were withdrawn from general legal use and replaced with SI metric units, facilitated through legislation and government agencies.sanderson wrote: ye olde metric system . . .
I guess I'm fully converted except perhaps in measurement where I still relate to feet and inches and a typical example would be in following the instructions in planting seeds/seedlings where the distances are given in centimetres.

Beating The Cost Of Living
A nice little article on 'Grow Your Own Vegetables To Beat The Cost Of Living'
Posting it on this site is a bit like preaching to the converted but it does give encouragement to those contemplating establishing a veggie patch.

This has certainly been my experience. Even with today's prices it sells for 50c, so almost not worth growing.Grow Your Own Vegetables wrote:Coriander is handy, but also hard to grow. It must be kept constantly moist and will go to seed if you turn your head sideways. Plant with no expectation of reaping more than a few leaves each season.
