We had a slight cold snap last week. We had been having weather in the mid to upper 80's, ,and everything was doing great. Then for a few nights it got down into the low 40's. I thought my plants were just suffering from that...but today I took these pics. It's getting worse. Anyone have any ideas? Is it a combination of cold issues, powdery mildew, insect? I have no idea. Please help if you have any ideas. I'll describe each pic above it:

Large yellow squash plant. Starts with edges of leaves, then gets worse a day or so later.

Squash. Has part of the leaves missing, like it's insect damage. Squash bugs? Cucumber beetles?

Dragon tongue green bean plants. White spots all over. Cold damage?

The yellowing of the leaves is called chlorosis. Nutrient deficiency in the bean plants and probably same in the squash, plus possible fungal issues in the squash... Contact your Cooperative Extension service for a more positive ID of the trouble.

TejasTerry,
On the first photo, top rt. there is a little line, looks like drawn by a person having a drink, that's caused by a leaf miner. Squish it. The rest, well don't know. I'd take off whole leaf and go to extension office, see what they say?

I had a problem with fungal gnats in my tomato seedlings, and some of the leaves looked like that. I don't know if that's what you have or not, but I treated the gnats with hydrogen peroxide mixed with water, and it worked great.

This is my first year at this, so take what I say with a grain of salt. If it is gnats, you should see them flying around.

Jazzy........ this is not a gnat problem and H2O2 is most likely not going to fix it.

I've sent A & M extension office an email with the pics. I'll also go by their office tomorrow and see what I can find out.

So frustrating because a lot of the issues that it COULD be cause similar looking leaves, etc....for instance wind damage can produce same problems, and we had really high winds for about 3 days in a row. Plus low temps plus rain.

Thanks Littljo for identifying the leaf miner. Thanks everyone else for suggestions. My garden is falling apart... Sad

TejasTerry your garden may not be a hopeless cause just yet. On the leaves that are very damaged, they are not doing the plant much good. In my opinion I would cut the worst leaves off, squish the leaf miner (it looks like some of the damage in other areas may be from it). When the leaf miner eats through the leaf, that area dies so it may be confusing what caused that area of damage. But it doesn't look like all your damage is just from it. You may be right about the cold and wind and rain doing some damage. I would follow what camprn said and take the leaf to an extension service or e-mail them a photo.

I'm really curious about the curling edges on the squash leaves, my cucumber seedings seem to have the same problem. Like you, I've had the same problem with the warm weather and then sudden drops in temperatures.

Well I got an answer from the Ag office today. They said that the high winds and sudden drop in temps most likely is the problem. I took samples of the leaves and they looked at them very carefully. There was also a master gardener there who said other people are experiencing the same issues. When I asked them if they thought there was a deficiency in soil, they said no...and didn't even think it was necessary to test my mix. She also suggested some sea kelp, and said that even if the plant doesn't need it, it won't hurt it. So I will be doing that tomorrow.

Anyway, they said that hopefully the weather will be a little more consistent and our gardens will come thru it... Squash/Cucumber Issues 3170584802

yay! Good news! Hopefully they will recover.

We've had funky weather here as well, and it's stressing the plants. I called the extension office this morning also. Hopefully the weather will change for the better. I just hope it doesn't go straight to high summer temps and stress the plants even further.
