What a fun thread!!  Your carrots are ah mazingly beautiful!!  I have 17 squares of taters that are close to getting dug up, and you just got me all excited, I too am a potato head!

And Mschaef, storing taters is pretty easy!  Don't wash and scrub them when you dig them up!  Here's a link http://www.gardeningchannel.com/storing-potatoes/

This afternoon I have finished blanching and bagging 16 pint bags of sliced carrots for the freezer.  And since my measurements tend to be 'rounded', I have a little over 2 gallons of carrots frozen for the winter.

Today I picked 2 more Amish Paste toms, and the very first of my pole beans from the 3 Sisters Box.  Just a handful, but lots more will be ready in the next day or 2, especially since we are in for a heatwave for the next week.  Scarlet Runner beans are starting to bloom (planted WAY late) and they have really pretty orangey-red blossoms.

Onions did not do as well as I hoped, but I will have LOTS of small ones, which should still be enough to get through until next season.

Garlic should be coming in the mail in a few months, so I have the beds ready for that.

Peppers - I have my first little red bell almost ready to pick, and I have picked 3 Holy Moley's.  I may have to make my first Amish Pastes into a batch of salsa with these beauties!

Corn is still growing, fully tasseled and lots of silks appearing.  Hopefully I will get a few good cobs.

GG

PS - while on weed patrol I found one of my Dakota Gold tomatoes, still green, picked and thrown into my asparagus bed.  Dang new neighbor kids!  I also found several of the bell peppers off my scraggly pity purchase plant picked and strewn about the lawn between our houses.  ARGH!  May have to get one of those motion sensor sprinklers!  Twisted Evil

Just finished bagging 22 pint bags of creamed corn for the freezer.  Not from my garden, but still from a N&C Midwest garden.  A friend decided to share the wealth and brought me a laundry basket full of ears.  Guess what I had for dinner!

GG

PS - only 3 weeks until our first average frost.  affraid

Our heatwave is winding down - for now - and some of my Amish Paste tomatoes ripened this week.  Today I picked a shirttail full and pulled the rest of my meager Cippolini onions to cure.  I am not even going to bother pulling my red onions, as they are barely bigger than sets, so I will see how they bound back next spring (experiment!).  After a week of picking toms as they ripen, then getting the shirttail full today, I had enough to mostly fill a gallon freezer bag.  Hopefully the rest on the vine will continue to ripen, as there are 50+ still left out there. Used one in a batch of guacamole - YUM!!!

A few of my Dakota Gold toms are starting to get a golden blush, but I found 3 more green toms picked and thrown on my lawn and in the walkways between the boxes. If any of them survive to ripen it will be a day to mark on the calendar!
