Combining Products
It is okay to combine liquid BT with neem oil? I have aphids on my lettuce and problems with some other bugs and I am beginning to see some caterpillars. Both of these are concentrates and need to be diluted with water. I was hoping to mix these two with some other ingredients like garlic, cayenne pepper and maybe some baking soda then spary this onto my garden for pest control and mildew prevention. To me it seems that this would be okay.
Are there things that should not be mixed together for application?

I would have to say please read and follow label directions of all insecticides. I do not know but you may have serious trouble if you mix them.

I agree with camprn: You must be very careful when mixing pesticides. Read all your labels.

I plan on using many of the natural pesticides listed in the Global Healing Center article. I obtained some neem oil and plan on using that as one of my major pesticides.

I try and use organic substances in my garden; both neem and BT are organic.
Some of those recipes listed don't seem so great in my opinion. I thought DE becomes useless against insects once it gets wet. In dry form it cuts through their exoskeleton and they dry out and die. At first I was interested in the Chrysanthemum tea but it sounds like it is indiscriminate and works against all pests. I guess neem can do that also. I am using cayenne powder and citrus in my garden to try and keep squirrels and cats away and those are two things that worms supposedly don't like. I guess with whatever you use you just have to find the right balance.

I do agree with you H_TX_2, balance is the key. I am not too sure about some in the link I posted. And being so new, I need input like yours. I am intrigued by mums.. mainly because I have access to plenty and that would be free.
In what form do you use citrus? I'd like to try that as well as the cayenne. Let me know when you have a moment. Thanks so much for your input.

I combined cayenne, red pepper powder, garlic powder and orange peel in equal parts and spread it around the garden. I got all of these items in the spice section at the grocery store. I added the orange peel because cats supposedly don't like the smell. Now I am fairly certain it is squirrels digging in my garden and not a cat. I can't say if this was effective or not for cats. The squirrels are still digging holes but we have had lots of dark and sometimes rainy days lately so it is difficult to know how effective it is because I have not done a good job of reapplying it often after it rains or drizzles.

Sorry, I just wanted to know... do you mix in water or do you just sprinkle these things around the garden area. Thanks.

I have them in an old spice jar as a powder and I shake them around the garden. Once it stops raining I will be sure to apply over the whole garden and hopefully that will keep the squirrels away. This is my 3rd year gardening and the previous two years the squirrels never dug a single hole in my garden. Now all of a sudden they will not leave it alone. I my also add some rose stems on top of the beds to keep them out. If nothing else comes out of this it is a good outlet for my stubbornness.

This is my first year with squirrel problems also. They destroyed my lettuce and spinach that I had been growing and harvesting all winter inside. Weather had warmed up some and I needed the greenhouse space so I moved the pots outside. Next day they were gone along with the cool crop seedlings I put out. Only the directly sown mustard greens seedlings are surviving.
