Start with what you like to eat and work from there.

Re: NEWBIE!!!
Welcome brave soul,
Where do you begin after you tell us what you'd like to eat ?
Have a look in my strap line . The book mentioned is our guiding light .
Do you have a copy ?
If so have you read it a couple of times right through to get the gist of how we play and grow in our SFG's ?
It works out well if you follow it closely & carefully , you'll not go far wrong with it , for it works anywhere in the world .
As there is no such thing as a daft question , don't be afraid to ask about things . Chances are someone else who is new or in the first flush of their SFG' ing has or has had similar thoughts to you and still requires an answer .

Re: NEWBIE!!!
Welcome to the forum, adalraga!
One thing I always recommend is to find the university extension office for your state online. They always have fantastic recommendations as to when to plant in your state and the varieties that tend to grow the best. And plantoid is right, if you don't already have the Square Foot Gardening book, get it right away. I read mine over and over and always find things in it that I've either missed somehow or forgotten! Hubby tried to loan my new SFG book last week
and it wasn't pretty! He finally settled for loaning out the previous edition! I'm also with Kay- figure out what you and your family purchase in the produce section of your grocery store or farmer's market and start there. Then add a square or two of something new! My family and I had never had swiss chard, but had seen it prepared on a bunch of cooking shows that we love to watch. So last fall I planted some. It really didn't take off until we started getting some warmer weather, but we harvested and cooked some this week and we now have a new favorite from our garden! Have fun!!
