Seedlings Empty Seedlings

Post  mrwes40 3/24/2013, 7:39 pm

I had some jalapeno pepper seedlings where the seed leaves dried up and the seedlings look like they're in distress. What caused that -- over watering? They don't appear to be getting the first set of 'real' leaves.

Thanks,
Bill

Not sure, are they getting enough sunlight?

Nah...16 hour a day under the lights.

If you think you are over watering, you probably are.

Would you be able to post a photo? That would certainly help us to narrow down what is going on

Seedlings Empty keep on trying

Post  hillcountryhick 4/9/2013, 4:13 am

You could have them too close to the lights too. It takes practice to get seedlings to grow just right. Thank God they are so cheap by the packet....
I tried 3 times with eggplant seeds and couldn't get them going. they are just too slow.

Last year I got lots of Petunia Wave seedlings to go. These are expensive seeds, like 15 for $5. But this year, they all failed.

Just keep on trying. maybe you should have 2 sets of seedlings at different distances from the lights and see which do better. or water 1 set more than the other and see which do better.

Yah that could have been it. I've since replanted and they seem to be doing better. I'm usually keep the lights about two inches from the plants.

Thanks,
Bill
