Dill Elephant soil conditions

I love dill and would like to incorporate it into my sfg this season. However the instructions on the seed packet read:
Poor soil? How does one make poor soil? Like just potting mix and sand? Perhaps I should grow the dill in a container and not my sfg.
sow in late winter, early spring or early summer where plants are to grow. do not cover seeds. plants require full sun, well drained and rather poor soil.

I have had better results growing dill in less fertile dirt than the SFG Mel's Mix. Sand probably is not a good choice. Try some in both the SFG and regular top soil from your yard.
