PNW, SADS alert!
Better take those full-spectrum lights you have for your plants and sit in front of them yourself! What a gloomy looking forecast
Re: PNW, SADS alert!
I KNOW! I put bonnets on box 3 and 2, not for late frost but to protect from drowning. At least there is bright sun "breaks" every hour on the hour....for about 3 minutes.
Re: PNW, SADS alert!
I hear you and from the extended forecast nothing yet on the horizon to give us something to look forward to. I have some seeds in now (peas and beans) outside but nothing I have to worry about wind wise. The pounding rain kept us up last night and we almost always lose power when the winds come. At least I took advantage on the weekend and got some outside prep done.

Re: PNW, SADS alert!
Pretty dismal out. Rain, clouds, wind, phooey. Where are my sunbreaks?
Still messing around and haven't gotten my peas planted yet. At least here, where it just does not warm up much, once they get going, they will produce for quite a while.
Also need to get my broccoli and cauliflower seedlings outside, those babies have had more than enough time indoors.
Hoping for soon.

Re: PNW, SADS alert!
The brother of my son-in-law was a professional diver. Inspected ships, other underwater doings. He lived in Seattle for about two years.
He got so tired of the rain and gray, he came back to Maine to see blue skies and sunshine again. He said he'd rather earn less money but see sunshine.
I don't know how you folks handle it. Too many dismal, snowy, gray days and I feel blue. Sunshine is what keeps me going. A few days of gray and snow here and I'm wilted. At least the sun comes out the next few days after that.
Edited to add: Of course on the plus side, you get to plant sooner and have a longer growing season. I guess it equals out in the end.
I hope there's a breakthrough of good Old Sol for you guys this week.
hugs,

Awww but when the sun does come out, it is one of the most gorgeous places to live. I love the oceans, the mountains, trees, and green so it works for me. I love the city and country, I get both. My kids can run and play out in the woods and the next week be shopping in Pike Place and going to any number of theaters.

We make a quick trip to Eastern Washington where the sun is usually shining. Once we dry out and kill the fungus, we come back home.

Sorry but I cracked up laughing at this box with your motto. My 3yr old is on a "Cars" kick. I've seen the movie 10 times in the past 10 days. When I read, "we rust" I was thinking. "rust-eze"
Ok, I need to get a life. Sorry for off topic post!

When the thermometer hits 70*, my wife starts complaining about the heat! I'm stuck here!
Re: PNW, SADS alert!
We haven't seen the sun in awhile here either. I am in that "Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho" category. We have rain foretasted for several more days as well and we have had rain for the last 3.
I am ready for the sunshine too!

Re: PNW, SADS alert!
Definately know what yr talking about.
Spent about six weeks/yr in the shipyards up there while in the service & now make quite a few trips up there to our local facility in Auburn.
Since 1987, I've only seen Mt Ranier(sp?), and the Sun, once.
I used to think "what a horribly gloomy place to live" (since I'm used to FL) ....but with my current condition, it's looking like a wonderful place to be a vampire gardener ....LOL

Re: PNW, SADS alert!
Well, if you can't get out & garden, make a visit to the gallery section here. That will boost your spirits. Such lovely gardens. Last year was my first SFG & was mainly concerned with getting started & having a good harvest, this year I'll be doing more with the paths & making it more attractive. I got lots of good ideas from the gallery.
You guys can grow 2 things that I can think of right off that I would love to grow: Delphiniums & lavender. It is just too hot & humid here, but I winter-sowed some lavender AGAIN this year.

Re: PNW, SADS alert!
My local forecast on Weather Underground is reporting cloudy but dry days on Sat & Sun. I do so hope this is true. I have boxes, I have bags of peat moss, vermiculite, and compost, all of it just waiting to get set up. My girls and I are just chomping at the bit to get out in the yard and dirt.
Oh and the local nursery told me their strawberry plants came in on Tuesday, yay!

Oh mamma< I feel your pain. It probably won't last long but it is getting late for you to be getting snow. We can still get more yet, although I am hoping we don't. We still have soooo much.
