Last year I purchased a book , Square Foot Gardening.
This recent winter I finally got around to reading it and became addicted to the idea.
For 40 years I have been planting a so called garden, till soil, throw in seeds, weed and water, etc..you know the drill.
4 years ago I tore it all up and erected four 4X12X1 raised beds and that's all it took for me to
go nuts about gardening.
That was a milestone in my gardening career, reading SFG was the second milestone.
This coming season 2013, I'm dedicating 1 complete bed to Mel's mix.
No need to try it, I know it works, has to....
I am in my 3rd read of the book, I'm one who needs to read over and over, and it still don't sink in.
I'll have many questions here, and hopefully I'll be able to maybe help with some answers.
In any event, very happy to be aboard, and will be eager to accept all help.
Best wishes from
Indiana PA

First welcome to the SFGing method and I was a row gardener too and it take some nerve to break out and try something new and Mels Mix is also a tough step; but it works!!!

But the first year I was a little skeptical and used my "own" mix but now have emptied them and put MM in both of them. All I need is some compost every planting and am good to go.

Don't feel bad about rereading Mels book as I find myself always picking it up from time to time too.

What is your favorite crop?

glad you\'re here jimmy cee happy hi
I love converts to this way of gardening and I am also glad that I discovered the book (1981 edition) many years ago at a garage sale for 50c alhough I never acted on it for all those years and years.
Luckily for me the day before I decided to start digging I went on to the Internet and found there was a later book and that I did not have to dig into the ground at all.
Look forward to seeing your results. Very Happy

Hi Kelejan
Hi Floyd...Favorite crop ?? that's a difficult question for me as I love them all.
Tomato's are delicious
Sugar pea's rarely make it to the kitchen
Garlic is so nice to see growing during the winter
Love the green color of lettuce
Pepper plants make me happy
Kohlrabi is very interesting along with being extremely tasty
Rhubarb's larger leaves amaze me, along with delicious treats wife makes
I could go on and on, it's just all to fascinating for me
I have many images to share, with more to come.
Living 3 blocks from the center of town, however on the edge of it, hills behind our home are filled with wild life.
Deer, Bears, Groundhogs, Rabbits, etc are all over here.
Had to erect fences to keep them all out
Just so much to do and so little time
And now MEL'S MIX Very excited about it
Love it all
