Plants you can start from cut ends?

I read an article somewhere in my wide ranging internet reading and darn it all, I forgot to save a hard copy! Anyway it talked about 10 plants you can start from your left overs - I can't remember most of them, but had fresh celery ends in my compost scraps so I gave it a try!

1. Celery - use the cut ends. I have been successful just sticking them in my Mel's mix and in about a month they're about 3 inches high now.

2. Green onions - cut off the root end and just stick them in the ground. They're about 6" now in the same time.

3. Since Romaine lettuce ends looked so similar to the celery, I just decided to try them and they're starting to grow. It's been just a few days though so I don't know if they'll continue.

4. Obviously, potatoes.

5. I've had luck as a child with pineapple tops.

Is there any other plants you've had success with?

THANK you! That wasn't the exact article, but the celery link was in the original one I read. I notice they mention Bok Choy and Romaine lettuce so my guess/experiment should work :-)

Starting from scraps, they grow much more quickly too. So I won't feel so guilty when I have to buy something to fill in when my garden isn't producing, LOL!

I did green onions and celery with success! Another thing you can do to get more bang for your buck it start new tomato plants from suckers and new basil plants from trimming! Just stick the end in a cup or bucket of water for several days until you see new roots growing then plant! These are the ones I have done and been successful with! There are more that I might try this summer!
