My new compost tumbler
The years and delicate health issues have caught up with me and I simply cannot handle that pitch fork and compost pile any longer. After going on a quest for the last several weeks, searching for a easier compost method that would work best for my needs, I located a great DIY compost tumbler on Youtube at this link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5i-Qe75-DDQ
After following this kind fellow's instructions, this is what I ended up with in my back yard ready for action. This is going to make composting so much easier for me and needless to say that I am one happy camper this evening

This is what I have
http://www.samsclub.com/sams/soilsaver-classic-composter/123572.ip
I get one very small batch ( @ 2 cubic ft) of compost per season. All my kitchen scraps plus paper shreds from the office and leaves from the yard go into this bin. The worms love it... the compost smells wonderful, but the quantity is woefully small compared to what I put into it..plus I have to handle the pitchfork.. which my back argues against..
I hope you post updates on this tumbler, how it works out with product versus effort... it looks beautiful !!

Re: My new compost tumbler
The secret to faster compost is to fill your composter all at one time. To do this, make yourself a small outside compost pile to which you add your chopped up kitchen scraps and old plants, leaves, egg shells cooked in the micro to kill harmful bacteria, mown grass, shredded newspapers, etc., and a few handsful of soil for their helpful micro-organisms.
When you have enough to fill your composter, do it. Be sure you have more browns to greens. Now all you have to do is turn that composter every day. You'll get finished compost much faster if you don't keep adding more each day.

Re: My new compost tumbler
Hi quitlbea and thanks for your reply. I am already one step ahead and working on that holding compost bin of posts and chicken wire to contain the goodies waiting for the next batch to go in the tumbler all at once. When I went outside this morning to enjoy the coolness of the air and sip my coffee, I found myself spinning the new tumbler and wondering what took me so long to find the answer to my back pain.
Thanks for your most helpful advice!
