Shucking Corn the Easy Way!
Got some really fantastic sweet corn at the Farmer's Market and learned a new way from a fellow shopper to shuck fresh corn on the cob without those pesky corn silks...it really works!!!

No way!! That is too cool and so easy. We'll have to give it a try.

Wonder if this would work when roasting the ears. I don't like to microwave food except for an occasional warm up. What say you.

I've tried the microwave method a couple of times, and it works like a charm!

It worked!!! We all cheered and hi-5'd after the cob slipped out. Then we cut it up in pieces and ate it!

I tried it last night too. Worked fine til I got to the last one. It was a small ear - the last of this batch of corn. Then I figured out the problem. It only works if you pay attention and cut the right end off.

That's what I want to know also CWJ. What about the earworms. I decided not to spray my corn this year and every ear had a worm at the top. I just cut the top off and threw it in boiling water. But I wanted to try the easy shuck method but the thought of the worm cooking was too gross to think about. YUCK!!

Re: Shucking Corn the Easy Way!
I had ear worms in my earlier corn harvest in june but there were none in this batch. I imagine the micrwaves would have cooked the worms and then I would have just cut away the area they were in same as before.
I sprayed this last batch with BT as soon as the silks appeared. Looks like maybe that helped.

Re: Shucking Corn the Easy Way!
It is not hard to pull back the top a bit, look for earworms and remove them or even cut that part out before and after. then just close it up again.
I do not have my own corn this year so am using supermarket corn. I have a teeny and limited kitchen so have not even bothered with corn this summer. This method was a godsend.

Re: Shucking Corn the Easy Way!
I've always washed ears of corn after shucking, but watching this video and seeing your comments made me think. Due to the growth arrangement, I guess its not really necessary to wash the ears? Kinda like washing a banana after you peel it?? I could have saved myself the extra effort !! Always learning something neat on here !!

Re: Shucking Corn the Easy Way!
Happy to report, the easy shucking method works equally well with corn roasted whole on the grill in the husk.
Take it off, slice the end, grab and a shake and out comes the corn cob with no silk and no burning hands.

Re: Shucking Corn the Easy Way!
We tried this the other night first two we did 8 minutes and the second round we did 6 minutes and we liked the 6 minutes better because is was much snappier. It's hard to judge the length of time because everyones microwaves are different!

Thanks for posting this. I was hoping it would work. Wait until I share this with my kids and grandkids. They will love the ease of roasting corn.

Re: Shucking Corn the Easy Way!
I nearly forgot about the corn on the cob I'd bought to prepare as a side dish for my dinner last night and was grateful for this method. Had the corn cooked and table ready for everyone in 8 minutes - no waiting for a huge pot of water to boil. Love it.
