Helping Moms in a Sacramento Housing Project
I met some Moms in a MidTown Sacramento housing project that want to learn to garden. I have loved Square Foot Gardening for years but am currently do not have a garden. Are there any other Sacramento women available to help these Moms get started ? ?

Are you able to gift them with a copy of THE ALL NEW SQUAREFOOT GARDENING book? That, plus getting one or all of them signed up for the forum will allow all of us to answer questions and encourage.
I am assuming this is a low income housing project and that these women do not have the resources to build beds and fill them. Does the housing authority have any self help assistance available. How about the County Extension Service.
I hope you are able to help get these women set up.

Took up the lawn...
My landlord allowed me to kill the front lawn and change the elevation with a retaining wall to protect the olive tree and prevent water runoff into the street. Next step: build 2x2 boxes so that I can have beauty and edible crops to cycle out for show (and into the sunniest spot). A neighbor did the heavy work with pick and shovel. Though I rent, it is worth it for me to pay for all of this as it gives joy, beauty, food, laughter, good exercise, sunshine and a gift to the community. In the back yard, I want to have two compost boxes that could be for plants later.
I still want to help the ladies at the housing project but I accepted the challenge to model it at the same time. I still haven't found the best price for coarse vermiculite and peat moss in Sacramento.
