Autumn crops & through the winter

Time is upon us in Europe and a few places elswhere in the world to start thinking what we are going to sow/grow for autumn and winter .
As none of us has a clue as to how the weather will treat us this next month or so I am sowing every square that comes free with autumn and winter stuff.

So far I have added a few more saladbowl lettuce seeds in pots in the glasshouse just to get them started, as it so wet and cool it could take them weeks to germinate if sown direct. Also sown six squares of Autumn King 2 main crop carrots plus two more squares of a Nantes style F1 main cropper , planted out the majority of the leek transplants , added another celery stump , more raddish and some chinese rose long root winter raddish. finally moved some sprouts that were heavily planted in a couple of square because I had no room to pu them at the time.
I have also set out the herbs like broad leaf parsley , chervil, dil and corriander into a herb bed area .

I found that last year and into this year I was able to move curly kale , broccoli & PSB three times as I organised the newly MM filled beds without apparent check in their growth , I just gave them a good bucket of water the night before transplanting and set them in well wetted beds ....puddling the transplant in at the transplant time.

I also recommend that you start making your new compost piles for use next year . Come the end of February you will most likely be needing some decent replenishment compost/nutrients for your beds.

Good post! I went out today and emptied 4 squares of bolting spinach and replaced them with beets and carrots. I also had to pull 5 of my sunflowers darn deer, so I threw some radishes under the remaining flowers!

is it ok to say plant a sq or carrots and when harvested put another root crop in its place?

Doing the same here where I am today. Getting plants cleaned up that are through their life cycle, diseased, or baked from the heat. Will be planting some Fall stuff now.

Carrots, kohlrabi's and probably some beans.

Being a newbie I planted some sugar peas, lettuce, spinach, mustard greens and kale this past week, along with more radishes, carrots & beets. It's probably too early in my zone 6 for the former but I saved lots of seed for later planting. And since I couldn't find regular broccoli or cauliflower seeds, I settled for things that I don't eat and/or know what they are like kohlrabi, broccolini, turnip.

I have no idea what I'm doing .... ...all I can say is thanks goodness for you guys and this forum!
