new to sfg
Hello everyone! I live in pt charlotte florida which is about 100 miles south of tampa florida. I have my sfg book on order and should be arriving by monday. I started gardening in december 2011 when i dug up some yard and planted a few things. we had a couple of cold nights ( imagine that cold in Florida) and that took allot of my plants out. I did see information on sfg and tried a few small boxes without mels mix and they are doing good. But right now i am looking at building about three 4x8 6in deep and use mels mix. but i have to find the ingredients first. I work part time (security) at a citrus plant and i talked them out of 3 barrels so i have three fiberglass barrels filled with rain water that i am using to water what plants i have growing. probably my biggest chalenge will be the compost. I have a horse manure source which i have been using for compost. But now i have been ready some post and i discovered i need about five types and mix together equally. I'll end this to keep it short because if i get into the chickens i have (6) this could go on and on. Yes i know another compost source, but i'm not getting enough for the 3 beds i will be building, but i am saving it. anyway looking forward to talk with ya all. a final note is that i am retired from the Navy and currectly working for doc state of florida.Moe:cheers:

Welcome to the forums. This is my first year, as well. Amazing group of people in these forums. I've learned so much - particularly in how to apply what I learned from the books.
I've found good stuff in the forum for my region - you have a region too - Coastal and Tropical South. Check it out.

Hi Moe, welcome to the forum! Yes - be sure to check out your regional forum. You may be able to find folks in your same area who can give advice about where to find the ingredients you need for your MM. As has been pointed out, there are lots of friendly folks around here who like to help so be sure to ask questions as needed and keep us updated with pictures so we can cheer on your progress.
