compost

is compost enough my veggies seem to be lacking something, not flowering, small squash. should i fertilize? if so what's everyone using?

Correctly made compost is enough.
Mel's mix with homemade compost is what this forum supports based on the book, All New Square Foot Gardening". Hope you get a copy! Best wishes and here are the composting details:

If you didn't do you own compost you probably are short some nutrients. Even if you did your own compost, if you didn't do a fair amount store bought kitchen scraps in, then whatever nutrients you were low in will still be low in.

If the leaves and plants are growing fine but not flowering, then you're short Phosphorus. If they're not growing well, it could be many things, but most likely nitrogen.

If every thing else is good and it's just not flowering well, I'd try a little hit of organic bone meal fertlizer.

If you're not an organic type, I used to (past tense) have great luck with my containers and Miracle-Gro before trying SFG. I used to do the 1/4 regular feeding, doesn't build the soil, but it did the trick on big beautiful plants.

I made my soil with 1/3 garden & bloom soil building compost and now thinking i should of used harvest supreme. A few days before I 1st posted i added Dr Earths tomato vegetable fertilizer and have seen good results, already harvested squash.

Did your 1/3 part compost include the 5 different types of compost as Mel suggests? If you only used compost from a single source, you could be missing all kinds of nutrients. The 5 types helps to ensure your crops are getting all the nutrients they need. This is especially important for this intensive style of gardening Very Happy

you know it all came from one bag but it did have bat guano ,chicken manure, worm casting, kelp,oster shells but mabe not enough of each? Rolling Eyes
