Overgrown Plant

Dear SFG Community, Thanks for the warm welcome! I have been trying to post pictures of the two boxes which I referred to, to no avail. Nonetheless, I have a pressing issue in that a zuccini squash is raging havoc in the MM box. It is growing everyday at exponential rate. It is taking over other plants in my box and is reaching the middle of the box. What should I do? I consider it a good problem, then again not really. Your assistance is greatly appreciated, WM

Because my plant vine is at a corner and was going to claw its way all over some dwarf chamomile I have used two plastic kitchen trays .. securely held in place with a sort of cane , to block its way .

As it crawls to the edge of the bed I will be running it over a wire support frame that has some sort of padding on it . Not decided what to use yet yet but it may well be a closed cell polystyrene sheet .

If it had been along the middle of a bed edge I would have used three trays instead of two .. I got my trays from a pound shop , which I suppose is your dime and dollar outlets .

Tie a rope to your wife and children before you let them venture near the squash alone. In a blink of an eye, those squashes can grow and swallow up everything in their path.

OK, so I'm pulling your leg...just a little! But I understand the need for expediency here. Many folks have had good luck learning to post pictures by following these directions.

Typically, I plant non-vining summer squash in the corners of the box. Then I use bamboo stakes along the inside sides of the square the squash is in, to gently push any wayward stems towards the outside of the box. If your squash is in an inner square, use stakes to guide everything in one direction to minimize encroachment into too many other squares.

Similar idea to what plantoid just posted!

Well, did you plant it in the center or on one side? you could prune some of the older leaves that are near the base of the vine.

OR you could build a new bed and move the rest of the stuff. Very Happy
