Curling tomato leaves

My area in Minnesota has had quite a bit of rain in the past week. My Brandywines have curled leaves. (mostly the top ones) I read somewhere that this can be cause by too much moisture. Is that true? I checked the leaves - not pests, etc.

It has not been overly hot - it is humid though. Actually the evenings have been cool - at least to my old weary bones.

Would it help to add some new compost? Wonder if the excess moisture may have taken a toll on the soil quality. Yes, I have MM in all my boxes.

Hey greatgranny! First, I don't believe I ever had a chance to say $glad you\'re here$

From your description, I don't believe you need worry yet, just keep checking for signs of pests or diseases like you normally do. Some varieties of tomatoes actually do that curling thing...I don't recall if Brandywines do as I have no personal experience with them yet, but I have a variety right now that has curling new leaves.

I would agree with givvmisstamps about not to worry yet. It does sound like the curling is from all the water. It should fix itself when the weather is not so wet. There is a chance you will get yellow leaves from too much water, just pinch or trim that off. Make sure you have good air circulation by pruning your plants. Do a search on the left column at the bottom about "pruning tomatoes" to learn how to do it.

The leaf curl you see may simply be a natural aspect of the variety of tomato you have planted, but there are also other causes.

It's looking better today. A cooler day and no rain - yet!! I've been reading lots of things about this type of tomato. Since I have never grown this type before I had better. It is not unusual for this type. My goodness, they are just now getting tiny babies and they are already about 3 feet tall. Glad I have a trellis. May have to extend it if they keep growing at this rate.

Love this time of year but am really tired when I'm am done for the day. Oh well, I sleep better.
