If anyone knows about Violas, I could sure use some answers.  What do you think the matter is with my violas?  Most of them are doing well, but this one white one has curled its leaves.

Now, looking at the picture, I see an orange one is curling, also.  Too much water?  Too little water?  I feel so sorry for the little guys, especially if it's something I'm doing (or not doing).  Help!

I do not see any curling leaves?  Do you mean the flower petals?  They are old flowers and need to be plucked.  That is how they fade.  Keep the old flowers picked off so it will keep blooming.

Stick your finger way down in the Mix. Barely moist? More water and start mulching. Really wet? Less water. I thought violas / pansies were cool / cold weather plants. I know I replace them with petunias for the hot summers.

+1 what SAnderson said about cooler weather.

Blooms do not last  so when you see them beginning to curl, that means those are spent. Just pick them off and the plant will make more buds.

We call plucking wilted flowers "dead heading"  if you do this it will make them bloom lots longer.  You can spend lots on fancy digital moister probes to andser you watering question or as recomended do the poor boy way and poke ya finger in and check.  It's hard to over water a good raised bed it runns off.  Thats why we do it.  It's the most popular method here in the soggy south. Pansies are cool weather plants.  They do not like the heat of summer.  I can usually keep them growing until about May 1.  Plant again in the early fall.

I'm thinking that in your area the heat might further shorten their lives.  I planted some in fall and they overwintered very well.... I wasn't even particularly faithful in covering them when it was bitter cold.

I found some violas today coming back from last years plants.  And lots of viola seedlings.  This was in the bed where I want to grow peppers this year.  I moved them to the broccoli bed and asparagus bed.
I love their happy faces. Smile
