Peppers no growy?

I planted peppers of three different kinds. They were seedlings.
The compost bed is very fertile, judging by other plants, so it's not the food.
The seedlings are pretty much staying the way they were planted.
They got darker and stronger, but no growing. Any ideas?

When did you plant them? Peppers are notoriously slow starters.

's been at least 4-5 weeks, I think.

+1 Mine have been out for 4 weeks with no visible growth, but they have gotten greener. We are just starting to really heat up (days 80-90 and nights now in the 60's) so I expect they will shoot up suddenly. Don't give up on them - peppers take their own sweet time........... If by any chance your peppers are on the west side of your bed? I made a fun discovery while blocking recent heavy west winds with a plastic sheet. It was attached to the west side of the critter cage. Not on the top or on the other sides. It makes sense how much intense heat was generated through the plastic in the afternoon and very quickly it seems the peppers are blossoming. They are barely a foot tall. Peppers like heat, perhaps crank it up with plastic??

I had started some eggplant and peppers from seeds and then planted them out in the garden. Heard they do not like any cool weather and if planted out too soon w/o protection, they grow much slower than plants started later. I believe mine are stunted from the weather. No freezing weather but cool nights. I don't know that I will start over for them or just plant something else.

I know that eggplants and peppers both like the soil to be at least 72F degrees to thrive. But believe me when I say, it's plenty hot here Smile

. I was over careful not to set them out too soon. If anything, I planted them late-ish, along with tomatoes. Tomatoes are doing just fine, but peppers are just sitting there and making faces tongue

at me. The fact that all three varieties are doing that tells me that the problem is not with the specimens, it's environmental.

Even with decent weather, my experience with peppers is they just start out SLOW! Even when I lived in CA, my peppers were the last thing to get to decent size..... Peppers no growy? 950477

Altho' they would probably be happy with a side-dressing of some compost if you want to give them a boost. Snacks always motivate me. Peppers no growy? 311672

I found that I get the best growth by starting them in doors a few months before moving them out into the garden. I started them in February then put them outside in late April.

Mine, too. Three different pepper types and plants; plus a Black Beauty eggplant seedling. Even after our week-long heat wave, and addition of some compost (+a spoonful of Azomite) to all, I'm still not seeing any progress by any of 'em. Sad

How are yours doing now, Weedless?
