My SFG is going strong in zone 6A. I thought I would share some spring photos before bugs and disease start taking their toll.

I have three 4x8 boxes packed with tomatoes.

The inner rows are indeterminate growing up a string, outer tomatoes are determinate, and are "florida weaved".

Here are my onion/peas bed, and behind that, bolting broccoli (it's been too warm for brassicas here).

Here is my beans/squash 4x4 bed. I am letting them fight to the death. If you squint, you can see the corners of the white bed behind the wall of leaves.

Sigh, in my part of California, they'd squeeze on house on a lot the size of your garden, if not two...

And probably 100 homes and townhouses on the distance between your garden and the neighbors house.

I know. I grew up here, but ran away to California to live in a shoebox for three years. It was an experience that I will always remember.

I came back though. I didn't appreciate what I had growing up.

Very Nice! This is my first year for SFG and when I look at the beans and squash I wonder if they will produce. Of course I know they will because that is the way you planned it. Not that I have done alot of gardening but I married into a family that gardens in traditional row and I just can't perceive that. But on the flip side I get excited to try the new things that I read and see on this forum

@crs - yes they will produce. I did this last year, but with 4 squash plants on each corner. That's too many for me. I did more beans this year.

I picked about a 1/2 gallon of baby beans between Monday and Wed. I picked the first yellow squash yesterday.

It's _one_ way, not sure it's the best, but it does work.

Congratulations, Squat, beautiful garden! Your weather sure is different from Oregon, only plants I have even within shouting distance of your verdance is still being babied in the greenhouse. In fact, beans are just now sprouting outside. Sigh.

Just gorgeous SJ! The pretty mulch really sets off the gorgeous garden colors too. I bet it's pretty nice just to sit and rest and admire everything.

What a beautiful garden. I really like your trellises.

How did you build the boxes with the gentle slope of the land? Are the boxes all level and then the MM is sloped? Or is the box level to the land?

Hey, Squash, what do you do when those indeterminates reach the top of the string trellis?

@nonna - it's a trade off. I bet you have spinach that hasn't bolted. The cauliflower seed you sent me is OK now, but this weekend of 95 F degrees might do them in...

@llama momma - I have a table & chairs down there. Yes, sometimes I do stop and just enjoy watching them grow.

@justme - My version 2 boxes are properly leveled. The first beds I did were not. A heavy rain will wash mel's mix out the bottom. If you have a slope, dig it level first before mixing your soil. It is worth the effort.

@1airdoc - The indeterminates on the north side go over the top of the trellis, and have about 5 1/2' to grow down the south side (and vice-versa). Last year was the first time using them, I am very satisfied with that project. I had 48 tomatoes in the middle squares, this year I added 40 bushy determinates in the outer squares ( and one box has 8 hillbilly and Dixie's Sweet tomatoes).

You're right, SJ, our spinach is not much larger than the mustard greens you sent. We've had a bit of weather warm enough to encourage them all to grow. Overcast, drizzly today. But sun promised for next week.
