skinny worms
I just got some worms from a friend yesterday for my first worm bin. They are really thin, like spaghetti. Nothing like this guy.
Does that sound normal? I thought I'd seen videos here or elsewhere where they were a lot thicker. She said they are supposed to be red wigglers, but doubt she would know species.

Re: skinny worms
Red Wrigglers are smaller than the earthworms you'd find in your garden, and they are indeed what is sold everywhere for worm farming/vermicomposting. A quick Google search gives you plenty of images to compare:
Re: skinny worms
Adult redworms are only 2-3 inches long.

Thanks for your replies. It's hard to get a good idea of scale from online photos. Having actual measurements helps. Mine are about that length, and 1/16 to 1/8" in diameter.

Re: skinny worms
At one point I was beginning to think mine might be croaking before adulthood! Or I wasn't feeding enough protein based food. But then I saw babies, yet still confused and thought cocoons must have been in the initial delivery package. Finally came across an article that gave the adult size measurement. Think it was from redwormcomposting.com
