compost sources in syracuse area
I'm new to SFG. I finally found vermiculate at gravinas in Liverpool, ny. but now am having a hard time finding different types of compost. I can only find cow and horse. Does anyone in syracuse area know of any sources? ![compost sources in syracuse area 109486](https://2img.net/u/2912/12/27/03/smiles/109486.gif)

hi Mfisk, welcome to the SFG Forum! I know that there a lot of farms near your area. I suggest branching out your search to some of the local dairy, horse, goat, llama, rabbit farms and see if any of them have composted manure or barn muck available.
Freecycle and Craigslist are other good places to look, as well as any local farm/grain store.

Re: compost sources in syracuse area
Welcome Mfisk. I got MM from my local Agway store. They ordered it out of Syracuse. The name on the bag is Gro-Well square foot gardening mix. It has a picture of Mel on the bag. I paid $12.49 a 2 cu.ft. bag. Everything I have planted so far is growing just fine. If you still can't find it let me know and I will check with my local store. It is under agway then listed under soils.
Have a good day

If you have a Wegmans near you, they are carrying Coast of Maine Lobster Compost. Some stores may not have it in stock, but if you ask the General Merchandise manager they should be able to get some for you.

Re: compost sources in syracuse area
Hi, just wanted to let you know Hafner's has a compost blend primarily composed of left over grain from the fermentation process at the Brewery. Also, There is a Stable in Phoenix that regularly posts on Craig's list for free manure. They are located on the corner of Rt 48 and Lamson Rd. I am filling my secon and third beds this week so I will let you know if I find any other good sources nearby.

I have no advice but enjoyed reading this particular post. Grew up in Liverpool 35 years ago and all those places bring back memories
You live in a VERY special part of the country....
