fish in compost
Went fishing last week...and now I have about 5 small bass buried in one of my compost piles, covered with a healthy layer of grass clippings. The smell is hardly noticeable and it's been about a 2 weeks.
Has anyone else gone old school and tried this before?

You might not smell it now but I can almost guarantee you that you'll smell it when you turn the compost.
Last October/November I got 2 five gallon buckets of fish scraps from a local trout hatchery to add to my compost bin. A few weeks afterwards, I turned it and added more stuff(rabbit manure, alpaca manure, and shredded leaves) and wow....did that ever stink.

Yup, fish parts always go in the compost pile at this house.

Of all seafish & rottable shell fish waste I've caught I've put the waste into the compost bin as well as some fish counter waste I occasionaly get hold of .
Don't add it in all one go / make up small bags , seal and deep freeze them .
Once you have a four inch layer on the heap add a coupes of small bags it when thawed and to the hole .. that way the stink is much reduced and the fish is better spread in the compost pile .
