I was in the store today, and I found these little ears of popcorn in the pet dept for hamsters and rabbits, it says just give it to them like it is on the cob, or put the cob in a bowl in the microwave and pop it right on the cob, I didn't know you could pop it on the cob!

So do you think I could grow some of the little pop corn? How big does the stalks get?

Yup, I was told it is possible, when a farmer friend handed me 3 ears last winter. I have to make a new bed for it to go into...
So do you think you will give it a try? It is pretty dried ears, good for hanging on the door in the autumn. Very Happy

I didn't know...do you think I could grow it? Empty Strawberry Popcorn

Post  Daniel9999 4/17/2012, 9:49 pm

This is a good variety to try if you wanna grow mini pop corn on the cob.

Seed Savers Strawberry Popcorn

Plants
are 5-6' tall with 2-4 ears per stalk.

Another good one is this one

Tom Thumb Popcorn

Dwarf 3½' plants produce 1-2 ears each that
measure up to 4" long.

There are several sites online that discuss cross pollination by all types of corn, including popcorn. I'm not growing sweet corn this year as the farmer next to me will surround my place with over 300 acres of field corn which would ruin mine by making it starchy.

On the bright side, I read that if you stagger your plantings by 2 weeks it could help avoid total contamination of your corn.
