Trellis for pumpkins...HOW TALL???
Okay, we're talking about adding just a few more squares for trellising pumpkins, and I was wondering how tall the trellis would need to be. Would someone advise me here please? Thanks in advance!

Re: Trellis for pumpkins...HOW TALL???
Pumpkins get pretty long, but 5-6' should do and then just let them cascade down the other side.
Re: Trellis for pumpkins...HOW TALL???
Thank you. My husband wanted to just use the leftover 4' pieces, but I wasn't certain that would be tall enough. Looks like I'm right, so we'll be getting more 6' pieces of pipe...and more leftover 4' pieces...

There was a cool ladder trellis someone had on here last year for their large winter squash....
Found it - it was Pattipan - it's a ladder style that is pictured about halfway down this thread...

I'll show that to my husband and see what he thinks about which will be easier and more cost-efficient to do at this point. I *might* be able to use the extra conduit pipe to support my determinate tomatoes, so we may decide to go that route since we haven't decided how we're going to support those yet.

My trellis is about 10' tall and last year the punkin vine went up over the top
and back and forth across the 4' width three times.

WOW Hoggar!!! Maybe I should build an extra-wide trellis for the box, then I can just keep training it up and down the side outside the box! The pumpkin variety I selected is called Connecticut Field. I have no idea if that will grow as prolifically down here in the semi-tropical region, when it's named for a far northern state. It's an Heirloom though, and I wanted as many Heirlooms as possible.

Michelle - I am trying Seminole Pumpkins for the first time this year. They are small tan heirloom pumpkins native to the Everglades. If you would like some of the seeds I would be glad to send some down to you. PM your address to me if you are interested.
