Today's Catch
My daughter has started a butterfly & hummingbird garden. It is in ground and she is waging war with the gophers. I showed her how to set traps and her score is 3 so far today. She just asked me to order more traps.
She also caught this guy(not in the traps & she did let it go well away from my garden):
It is a Jerusalem cricket, also known as a Potato bug.

Re: Today's Catch
I have never seen a critter like that, thanks for sharing. From doing a little reading it seems like it is on the beneficial side of being in the garden.

But it is still scary to come across one of these 3" long critters, and beware of those mandibles - THEY HURT IF YOU GET PINCHED!
There is a thread that talks about SCI-FI bugs and this guy was on it!

Yet another reason to wear light weight gloves in the garden.Goosegirl wrote:But it is still scary to come across one of these 3" long critters, and beware of those mandibles - THEY HURT IF YOU GET PINCHED! GG
Rooster, LOL, looks like a story board for a '50s horror flick!

Re: Today's Catch
Middlemamma had a horrendous story about a potato bug in a jar that hissed at her and her brother and refused to die. I wonder of this is what she was talking about?

Yes it is! I remember that being talked about on one of the threads where we were swapping pics of these monsters! My sister was babysitting our niece (35 years ago ) and she caught the crawling baby (niece) just in time to keep her from putting the other crawling thing into her mouth ! Baby had it in her fat little hand and was drooling. How she didn't get pinched I will never know, but I thought my sister was going to have a heart attack. She started a war with them in her back yard.
GG
PS - forgot to mention, baby and beast were IN THE HOUSE, not scooting around the back yard. How would you like to step on one of THOSE things with bare feet?!
