Cinnamon as rooting hormone
If you don't have rooting hormone use cinnamon instead.
Thought this was clever.

I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

So if damping off is a fungus I wonder if cinnamon could be sprinkled in and around seedlings?

This is so interesting. I've lost a few seedlings this yr, look fine then, just keel over all of a sudden.

Re: Cinnamon as rooting hormone
Last year Quiltbea talked about spraying sprouts with weak green tea to prevent damping off. Anyway, I did it last year and I'm doing it this year. Haven't lost any since I started.

So if the article is correct the answer is yes, cinnamon can be sprinkled once to prevent fungal damping off. Interesting I will try it and see what happens. Thanks!
