Strawberry ? Empty Strawberry ?

Post  jerzyjen 4/3/2010, 2:45 pm

So this is my first year trying out strawberries so i have zero experience. I purchased day neutral berries, which the description says "heavy crop in june, followed by a continual harvest until frost" So hopefully i get fruits all summer. Here's the question. My original strawberry box location is now washed out, and now we are talking about possibly doing some underground work in that corner of the garden. I dont want to set up my box in that area just in case we have problems there for a while. The only space left that will fit this box inside my garden area is behind the box (on the northern side) where corn will grow (something else I've never grown). I do know that the corn will probably start to shade the box in july, but there will still be some sun peeking through the stalks and also the afternoon hours the sun should shine on the strawberries.

Do you think the berries will do ok in july & august in partial shade? I'm really not sure what else to do, and I have to imagine i'll be getting my berries in soon since burpee's schedule says that shipping for fruits begin on 3/29 for my zone.

seems to me they might like the location. worst case, if they seem unhappy, you could transplant them somewhere else then. til then, just enjoy them. Smile

i need to get my strawberries planted too. i have them jut not in ground. heck i need to make mroe mel's mix first. . . .

so much to do, so little time!
