Simple Scallions

This is so simple that it seems like cheating. Can you really cheat creation? Maybe creation just likes to give us success.

Recycle your green onions. It gets you over the hump of waiting for your seed to make sizable plants. Thanks to the Lil' Frugal Gardener

Ever seen the technique of leaving a little bit of green on the onion, and placing it in a cup of water in the window sill? The greens will just keep growing, it's cut and come again. Not sure about it going to seed though.

That is what the title says. When I watched the video I did not notice that. This is how we used to grow leeks.....from leek roots. I was under the impression that she was eating the green onions. I shold have read the title. Now I wish I could take it down.

That's ok, it's good information for someone that might want to try getting seed from some of their favorites.

I was wondering while watching the video... looks like you cut up pretty nice scallions just to get... them to what... regrow? Laughing

But I really like the white part of the scallions - they're tasty. Smile

That's okay - I just leave some of my un-harvested in a pot at the end of the season and they are the first green things I have growing in the spring.

I have been doing this since last spring. You don't wait for them to go to
seed and you only need about a 1/4" + root, off the bottom next time you
use your green onions save the bottom bit with the roots (I have successfully
regrown them from as little as 1/8" + root )and plant them back in there
square when they are 12" tall there ready to be cycled again I have green
onions that are 3rd and 4th generation and have never planted them from seed.
