I'm throwing water on them every day. They seem to be as hardy as weeds.

You may live to regret treating them so well and making them feel so welcome. They are indeed as hardy as weeds and now that they know they will be well-fed and well-watered, they will never leave, and will multiply like bunnies!llama momma wrote:I'm throwing water on them every day. I never do anything to mine, except thin them every few years and pawn some off on unsuspecting friends.

Re: Egyptian Walking Onions
Oh boy, Goosegirl, time will tell! When I first got last years bulbils from Littlejo, I placed them beneath mels mix and they went crazy and grew into monsters with their own bulbils. I am curious how those bulbils will do in the open ground. I barely placed them in clay soil as you can see in the picture. I wanted to mimic their natural growth. Come winter they will be subjected to fierce westerly winds and snow blowing across 100's of open acres next to my place, possibly for months. If they can survive then I will think of them as my precious onion weeds!

Re: Egyptian Walking Onions
I have some growing in the shredded bark in my walkways where I missed some of the littlest bulblets when I thinned the herd. There is weedcloth below the bark, so they are getting nothing from below. And yet they grow.....

Re: Egyptian Walking Onions
You all have peaked my interest. I want some Egyptian Walking Onions! I bought some onion seeds to plant this fall but haven't been able to find 'onion sets.' I'm hoping they show up at feed stores at the right time to plant.

Oh Millenia, they are the kookiest things. So confusing at first until you realize you can't destroy them.
Wish I had some bubils to send ya but I planted all mine. Next year fer sure if you don't get some by then.
