So, 10 days after planting my Zucchini sprouts are up, and going nuts! How many of these and how close can they be per square? I intend to trellis them, but I hate to snip the whole bunch.

Also, I'm seeding Onion sprouts in a seed tray indoors and they're finally starting to come up. How do I know which ones are a single plant so I can snip them?

The SFG book has spacing guidelines, but I suggest to put one per square and have them on the outside edges of the box. Zucchini if allowed to sprawl will take up about 9 sq. feet.

Onion seedlings get a bit different treatment than other seedlings in that they are quite sturdy, you dont need to cut off the extras to allow a single plant to grow. You can transplant each of the seedlings where you want them. Onions have value as food but also in other areas of the garden as companion plants.

Thanks for the video, Camprn. My onion seeds have germinated in vermiculite, but are just little threads. As I am not ready to place them in the SFG yet, I think I will put several together in some seedling flat cells, then transplant in a couple of weeks. Mine are bunching onions for use as green onions.

It's nice to know they are not especially fragile.

So am I, and now I know that I don't have to trim my onions Smile

I'm going to have the zucchini go straight up...but I guess I still have to bite the bullet and snip some sprouts...I actually trimmed my radish sprouts today, I just hate killing those big strong zucchini...

Go ahead and transplant them into little pots or plastic cups. you may find someone to give them to. Very Happy
