Hello from the So. Cal High Desert!
Hi everyone! I'm new here but have been reading all of your wonderful advise for several weeks now. I'm not at all new to vegetable gardening but will be trying the SFG method for the first time this spring. I have already read the new SFG book.....loved it by the way....and have my compost started. I look forward to sharing the experience with all of you.

Yes, L&D it is! I've been an L&D nurse for 8 years now.

Welcome to the forum. Seems like there are quite a few nurses on the forum. Guess we all just like to nurture.. I am a Clinical Informatics Nurse, but I have worked in several different areas including pedicatrics, orthopedics, med-surg, geriatrics, and... Prison nursing.

I admit: I couldn't figure out why a national holiday needed a nurse!

Braim5: you've had a vary interesting career! I think you are right....we do like to nurture. I truly love my work but things can become quite "intense" in most areas of nursing. The sweet, quiet work of gardening is very soothing to the spirit.

Welcome to the forum. How deserty? We do have a regional forum but I am remiss in being specific about desert and mountain planting and concentrate on coast and inland valleys. For veg gardening, here you mainly need to know if it is cool or hot season and plant accordingly.

Hi Chopper, Thanks for the warm welcome. I live in the Antelope Valley. It's in northern L.A. county. It's part of the Mojave desert and I'm at about 2400 ft. elevation. Winters are cold and below freezing at night is not uncommon. Summers can be very hot with temps above 100 quite the norm. Very dry climate here. Unfortunately, I think it too cold here for the winter gardening many of you in So. Cal. enjoy.

If you've had a holiday with me.....you may need a nurse. We do it right 'round here.
Welcome aboard, LDRN. I hope you get everything you are looking for out of the forum. We love helping and answering questions, if we can.
As arid a climate it sounds like you are in, keeping that compost moist sounds like a priority...especially if you get any wind over there.

Hi Backyardbirdgardener! Thanks for the warm welcome. We sure do get wind here! You're right....keeping the compost wet is a challenge.
