My Second Box - An Experiment
Well today was a nice day so I built another 2x8ft box and added a 2x2 raised section for root veggies. Just like last time my 4 year old helped out.
I cut 4 pieces of 3/8 inch rebar into 3 inch pegs to hold the raised section to the main box.
Next I drilled some 3/8 inch holes in the boxes for the pegs to go in.
My boy wanted to knock the pegs into the frame so I let him help me with that.
I didn't want to break the wood so I took an old board and placed it on top while I let 'Ole Betty Bang Bang' convince the frame pieces that they needed to sit flush.
The frame is now in place, but the wind is a little high to mix anything so I have some stuff holding the fabric in place for now.
I'll get some more pics posted once I get the mix made up and have the frame filled and planted.

That's going to be a clean, unique looking box. I like it.
But you didn't tell us the secret of how to get all the holes lined up!
Around these parts, Betty is known as "THE PERSUADER"

just a little oil
to get the holes lined up I just placed a drop of turbine oil on each metal peg. When I turned the top section over an touched the frame it left the oil dot behind so I could drill in just the right spots.

Smart. ... I've also found that in the absence of oil, my daughter's water color paints work well for such things. I like how you put it in the middle instead of on the end as so many do.SirTravers wrote:to get the holes lined up I just placed a drop of turbine oil on each metal peg. You two are a great pair!
It looks like the boss and his asst are doing a great job getting their raised beds ready for the gardening season.
I like the tip about the oil and the paint. Good idea.
