Kim, I would love to know how the chia worked out for you? Were you able to harvest any seeds? Did they do ok in our region?

I just learned about them, and I'm super excited to get some to add to my newfound green smoothie obsession Smile Even better if I can grow some myelf!

It didn't work for me, so now I just sprout them or turn them into microgreens.

Cha-cha-cha-chia Anyone grow chia? - Page 2 Empty How do you get the seeds at harvest

Post  Hardcoir 3/30/2013, 11:54 am

We buy chia seeds and use them in our Nutriblasts along with flax seeds. It must be easy to grow, or else the chia pet sales would not continue to soar. If I knew how to harvest the seeds and how many seeds can be harvested in a square foot, I might try to grow it.

Buying the seeds from Whole Paycheck is not cheap. We occasionally find them at Ross Dress For Less, T.J. Maxx, and Marshall's. Our current package is organic white seeds that cost $6.99 at T.J. Maxx (8.82 oz) from Ethnoscience.

Chia is a salvia (Salvia Hispanica L.)
