Potato Empty Potato

The past few years I have tried, sort of, to grow potatoes. Well, to be honest I cut the suckers up, plunked 'em in DIRT, and got a whole lotta nothin'.Next year I am going to try to grow potatoes and REALLY MEAN IT THIS TIME. And maybe, just maybe, I will play this song to encourage them.

I love it. And I want to plant potatoes next time around. I've done it before, years ago, and just love digging for them when they're ready. It's like digging for treasure!

A Mo-tab spud choir?

I do want to grow some potatoes. In those rope-handled buckets (once I buy some). That's my plan for next year. We need a spud contest.

oh how i looooove potatoes and they are so much fun to grow....cheers

my kids love ( me too ) to dig for treasure!!

one thing i learned is to make sure you use seed potatoes....i know some have been able to throw in some store bought ones and may get a few spuds....but from what i have read.....seed potatoes is the way to go if you really want to harvest good spuds Very Happy

One thing you could check on is the supplement buckets used for livestock. They don't have the rope handle, but pretty much the same thing. A lot of times, ranchers/farmers have so many, they would be more than happy to part with a few. They come in handy for all kinds of stuff.

Hey - thanks! That sounds perfect. I don't know anyone with livestock. I checked craigslist with no results, so I put a wanted ad out there. We'll see if I get any hits! bounce

I can tell you that I've tried twice. Once from rotten store-bought potatoes that were starting to stink...but sprouted all the same. And, once from potato seeds bought on clearance at the end of summer. Both worked fine. I think the trick is to get the seeds sprouted first. That way, they come up pretty quickly. My summer ones appeared within a week.

So, you "can" grow potatoes in both spring AND fall.
