A caterpillar. what is it? Fuzzy Brown and Black

I remember reading here just a day or two ago about about someone saying if this particular caterpillar that was a wooly/fuzzy caterpillar with black at either end and the middle third brown, if the brown part was large, then it would be a hard winter.

What was that caterpillar? I found one that fitted that description today while out walking. I tried to identify it via the Internet and think maybe it is a Tiger Moth?

Haven't yet got round to posting pictures.

Thanks camprn, that's the one. That article was interesting, and when I picked up the caterpillar, it did roll into a ball and play dead.

The funny thing is that when I watched the evening news tonight on Global TV, the weatherman showed a picture of that caterpillar and mentioned that according to him, the winter will be a cool one. I must say that 'my' caterpillar was as large and solid one.

So from never having heard or seen a picture of that creature before, in three days I have seen three of them plus a live specimen.

I'm glad it was not one of the wololy ones that irritate the skin. I was lucky there.

She/he has now been realeased back into the wild.
