Am I too late?

I'm wondering if I'm too late to start planting? I still need to prep a garden area (new home) but think I could have that done in the next week. I'm new to all this and don't want to bite off more than I can chew. Can I start now or do I need to wait until the next planting season?

I fairly new to this forum, but as you are in Arizona I am thinking that it is time for you to plant cool weather crops such as lettuce, snap peas, radishes etc.

Have you started making a bed? If not, get that done ASAP; even if you do not plant this year, it will be ready for you to go next year. I suggest you start with one bed for now. I now have two years experience and the second year was so much better as I was building on the knowledge I had accumulated that first year.

I now have three beds.

I am sure more knowledgeable people will be along to give you some help.

As for me, it is getting time to shut down for the coming ice and snow we have in the interior of British Columbia, although I am hoping that my shallots and garlic will survive the winter and give me an early start next spring. Am I too late? 61949

kelejan is right. you should be able to still get some cool weather stuff in. lettuce, peas, spinach, radish. you could also try broc and cauliflower if you go and buy some starts. You could also chance some cherry tomatoes if you buy some transplants. . . may be slightly late for those since they are cold sensitive.
Last year we planted early Oct, then that big storm came through and we had to replant alot around this time. We were still able to get lots of lettuce, spinach and peas last year.

As a matter interest (to me, anyway), the lettuce seeds I planted way too early for fall, have now decided to grow, and that is becasue we have left our summer weather behind in Monday, and with two days of cooler weather and rain, that are shooting up now.
Now I appreciate that Mother Nature dictates when things grow, not me.

Welcome to the forums.

I live in Chandler and started planting mid September. You still have time to do your fall plantings for the items the others have mentioned. With our cold spell this week it's perfect to start planting your lettuce since they will not germinate in warm soil.

If you start next week you will be okay.

After spending some serious time in my yard today, I may be waiting for spring. Sad

I want it to be right and not fast. Thanks for the calendar link, that was very helpful. I'm really excited to try some of the ideas here and can definitely see it as a learning and growing Smile

experience.

Welcome to SFG ... you're going to love gardening in Arizona.

You are not too late for many plants in your garden. I keep a copy of http://ag.arizona.edu/pubs//garden/az1005.pdf within reach at all tiimes. It's never a bad time to be planting in Phoenix.
