Storing My SQFTG Empty Storing My SQFTG

Post  markjass 9/30/2011, 5:59 am

I have been SQFTG for at least 3 yrs. My house is going to have to be rebuilt after Febuary's earthquake in Christchurch New Zealand. I will probably be in a flat for a good few months. I want to store the mixture until my house is rebuilt. If vermiculite was not so difficult to get hold of and so expensive I would not be bothered. Any ideas as to how I can store the mix?

Are you going to have access to dry storage or will it have to be outside? does it have to go off site? are there any microbreweries in your area? I think barley and hops come in plastic lined sacks. Maybe you can get some empty ones.

How much do you want to store. I'd dry it and put it in trash bins., Or if it's still moist, drill a few small holes in the bottom of the can, but sit the can on blocks or a concrete pad so it's not on the ground.

I think we need to know what you have access to for storage? On site or off site?

The main thing is to keep it dry and covered. If you have trash bins, they would work. But, if you have a huge garden to save, trash bins may not be practical.

Old school.

Tarp on the ground. Pile MM on top. Cover with another tarp. Secure.

(You could substitute plastic of adequate thickness for tarp.)

+1, if you can leave it on site.

If you have to move it then I agree with others to get garbage cans or those big plastic 50gal barrels can be had for cheap (at least here in the US).
