Sorry, I know a lot of newbie questions, so for those that need to buy compost (and this year I'm most certainly still in that camp) is there a good list somewhere of the "types" that exist?

Right now I've identified the following at a couple of local places

1. Chicken Manure (HD, OSH or any store)

2. Cow Manure (HD, OSH or any store)

3. Grape Compost (American Soil store, made from well, grapes)

4. Wondergrow Compost (American Soil Store, made from Composted Green and Food Waste)

Not yet been able to identify a fifth type, can't find Mushroom Compost anywhere around me (at least not in any of the main places I can think to try) I may have a fifth at a local nursery, need to check what they called it again and check what's really in it. Also not sure if getting two types of manure count as two different composts or just one?

I have something called "sea compost" which is composted lobster and shrimp shells with composted seaweed. It's available easily in Maine and Louisiana, but my gardener's supply store was willing to order some for me. There's also worm castings, which (from what I understand) are so mild that they don't need to be composted before use.

Any ruminant makes a dandy composted manure. Rabbits and guinea pigs, for example. You just want to make sure they are eating grass or hay and not meat products.

Absolutely check craig's list for local sources. I found a place to get all the horse manure I can carry. They had everything from fresh to completely composted depending on the pile location. And if you drive by a stables, just drive in and ask.
