Fall plan feedback please
This is preliminary fall 2011 plan. This is my first year of SFG.
The top left corner is north. This is zone 5a. Our first average frost
is Oct. 6. Anything in green is already in the ground.
I'm planning to leave the tomatoes and pepper in the ground until the first frost. The eggplant might get pulled early b/c it only had one fruit and no other signs of fruit/flower as of yesterday.
The bottom right corner has two items b/c this 4x8 box was built with diagonal braces in each of the four corners. This spring, I was able to grow lettuce in the other half of that square. Anything grown in the top 2 corners are a bonus - it was hit or miss this spring up there.
I planted carrots, leaf lettuce and Mesclun in the box in the spring. Everything else will be new to the garden.
I'm open to the idea of making/using a hoop house, but I'm not sure what shape it should be considering where everything is located. Can pak choi and choi (they're both Chinese cabbages) sum grow under a hoop house?
I'd appreciate your feedback/experience. Thanks.

Everything you have listed as being planted for Fall looks like a good fall crop choice.
Are the peas a bush type? It would be hard to trellis a vining pea with the asparagus already in the top row.
As far as a hoop house, that may extend your Fall season a bit, but the plastic most of us use will provide minimal frost protection. If you decide to do one, I would suggest running your hoops across the four foot distance and making it the full 8 foot length. Remember, in order to access everything, you may need to be able to go in from the sides and not just the ends, so make sure you have allowed for that.

and hoop houses with Christmas Lights to provide a bit of additional heat.
