My veggis are infested by catterpillers!!! Help !!!
My Amaranths (edible) are just growing but heavily infested by catterpillers (hornworms?). They made holes on almost all the leaves. I squished many of them but still lots are at the SFG bed. I'm afraid if they may transfer to adjecent beds.I sprayed "Ortho bugs R gone" as it says it kills catterpillers, but I've doubt. I'm almost going to cry and pulling my hairs, they are literally chewing my heart. Anyone has any magic? SOS!!!

Do you still have the caterpillar infestation? can you post a photo of one of them? I hope that they are gone and you still have your hair!
Re: My veggis are infested by catterpillers!!! Help !!!
My hair thinned a lot but have gotten catterpiller solution from you tube. It was actually cabbage loopers and B.T. worked dramatically to eleminate them. BT (Bacillas Teringenthis?) is active bacteria that kills Cabbage loopers but veggi/fruits are still edible. Hope our SFG friends may use this information to save their gardens.

I've been using BT for a couple of years and it works great on all caterpillars. Bad thing is having to spray it every 4-5 days to keep it effective. Thus my broccoli looks horrible right now.

BT is what I would have recommended! Glad you were able to get a handle on those little munchers!

Funny how protective everyone can get over THEIR plants and veggies when they get involved. It's not just MOMS plants anymore!

I work with kids in the Grow UR Grub summer program at our community garden. When the kids see those white cabbage butterflies, they fall all over themselves running around trying to catch them.
